jJune 2008 Many people have written in wondering when Kevin might venture out again and tour. Never having been a big fan of life on the road and always terribly nervous to stand before an audience, Kevin is these days even more reluctant to go and get himself out there. "I would rather go fishing than join in the race" remains his view on all this. And so it is.

Congratulations to Graham Bennet whose excellent biography of Soft Machine has won the Association for Recorded Sound Collections 2006 Award for Excellence in Historical Recorded Sound Research. Out-Bloody-Rageous is the definitive and thorough biography of Soft Machine. Graham Bennet's engaging style tells the story of the time when fronted by Kevin Ayers they were the house band of the College of Pataphysics and (with Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd) pioneers of the British underground psychedelic scene and then onwards after Kevin's departure and the band's innovations into Jazz.
